I also emailed German Salvia buff Frank Fischer (now w/ Ewald Hugin, formerly w/ Hans Kramer at De Hessenhof) and he wrote back that "The Salvia in the blog should be Salvia pomifera. Native to Greece, mainly Crete. Quite hardy, but of course, reacts sensible to wet winter weather. Very very good drainage is a must!
